Bayelsa State Governor Elect, David Leon, Sacked by Supreme Court

Governor elect of Bayelsa State, David Leon was on Thursday February 13th, 2020 sacked by the Supreme Court.

This is coming barely 24hours to his swearing-in and inauguration ceremony as Bayelsa State governor.

A five-member panel of the apex court led by Justice Mary Odili nullified the election of Mr Leon on the grounds that his deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, presented false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in aid of his qualification for the November 16 governorship election in State.

The apex court in the judgment delivered by Justice Ejembi Eko consequently ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Messrs Lyon and Degi-Eremienyo and the party with the secondĀ  highest number of votes declared winner.

With this judgement, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Diri Duoye, is expected to be inaugurated as governor of Bayelsa State.
